XAS has become crucial for understanding the local environment of specific elements considered as active sites in catalytic materials. A notable example is the characterization of catalysts consisting of single atoms\, where an XAS study is (almost) a prerequisite. Among X-ray techniques\, XRF is not a novel method; nevertheless\, it holds promise in unveiling the spatial distribution of active sites across catalyst particles\, especially when utilizing nanoprobes. In this presentation\, I will provide two specific examples in which XAS was employed to investigate the metallic phases in Rh2P@C and Co2P@C catalysts\, as well as in the study of speciation of bimetallic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). In the latter case\, micro/nanoXRF was used to evaluate the spatial distribution of Ni and Zn across MOF particles obtained through different approaches. In both instances\, the catalysts were utilized in the conversion of olefins into high-value-added products\, such as aldehydes and butenes.

SUMMARY:NSLS II : XAS 2024 Tutorial
DESCRIPTION:Application Deadline : January 31\, 2024\nCourse : March 19-21\, 2024 \nX-ray absorption spectroscopy is a core technique of the DOE synchrotron user facilities and attracts diverse scientific communities. This 3-day course offered by NSLS-II experts will introduce XAS data analysis for new and prospective users and provide an opportunity to perform real experiments at NSLS-II XAS beamlines. The first day will be devoted to fundamentals of XAS analysis\, data reduction and processing\, and basics of XAS experiments and instrumentation.\nCourse Website  \nParticipants will be trained hands-on on XAS data analysis of increasing complexity. Modern XAS methods such as high-resolution spectroscopy will also be introduced. On the third day\, the participants will participate in the experiments at XAS beamlines and analyze the data they collect. \nThis course will be limited to 35 participants. To be eligible to participate\, all applicants must submit their application online by January 31\, 2024. Applicants will receive notification of acceptance by February 1\, 2024.\nRegister
