SUMMARY:Application Deadline: ISRD-SEES Workshop
DESCRIPTION:ISRD-RCN and SEES will host a hands-on workshop to introduce synchrotron techniques to the rock deformation community on March 2–4\, 2026\, at the Advanced Photon Source in Lemont\, Illinois. The workshop will focus on synchrotron-based high-pressure\, high-temperature rock deformation experiments conducted at beamline 6-BM and GSECARS. \nGraduate students and early-career researchers with relevant interests are encouraged to apply. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and a research statement to Dr. Wen-lu Zhu (wzhu@umd.edu). Due to space constraints\, participation is limited to 10 students. Travel support will be provided for selected participants. \nThe application deadline is January 16\, 2026.

SUMMARY:NSLS-II NEXT-III Beamline Concepts Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Dear Members of the NSLS-II User Community\, \nWe are excited to invite you to learn about the next generation of beamlines proposed for NSLS-II as part of the NSLS-II Experimental Tools III (NEXT-III) Project — a major DOE-funded initiative that will shape the facility’s scientific capabilities for the coming decade. NEXT-III will deliver 8–12 new beamlines and supporting infrastructure\, rolled out in phases with 2–3 beamlines launched every 1–2 years\, enabling transformative science across diverse disciplines. \nTo identify candidate beamlines for the next phase\, NSLS-II held ten Scientific Strategic Planning Workshops in the fall of 2025 and many of you participated! We subsequently issued a call for one-page pre-proposals in December 2025 and ten were selected to advance to the full proposal stage. \nTo share these exciting ideas with the user community\, we will be hosting a NEXT-III Beamline Concepts Webinar:\nThursday\, January 29\, 2026\n1:00 – 3:00 PM (ET)\nJoin via Zoom: https://bnl.zoomgov.com/s/1614781339 \nThis webinar is a unique opportunity to hear directly about the proposed beamlines and engage early in shaping the future capabilities of NSLS-II. The beamline selection process will follow the model used for the first two phases of NEXT-III (2022–2023). Full proposals will be reviewed by external panels and prioritized by the NSLS-II Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC)\, with final decisions made by NSLS-II leadership in consultation with the DOE. \nWe hope that you will join us for this exciting discussion and thank you for your continued engagement and contributions to NSLS-II! \n  \nPlease note that the recording has been posted on the NSLS-II Homepage in the Announcements section.
